When we were in Bahrain in November, we spotted this gorgeous folk print at the Bahrain Museum. Sadly there were no labels for ANY of the work at the show and no one to speak to for more info on the artists. As printmakers ourselves, this piece really spoke to us from the line quality to the subject matter to the sense of place this piece evokes. Whether true or not, we were told this artist was blind and recently passed away. Feel free to reach out should any of you be familiar with this artist’s work. In any case, just thought we share, as we think this is a beautiful piece!

We thought we’d share a few highlights from our participation at this year’s Art Dubai, with our shadow puppet installation “Midnight in the Oasis”. We built a shadow puppet theater, created handcut Zid Zid paper puppets, made Zid Zid cushions, added hand-painted murals, installed a mini-movie theater to screen Lotte Reniger’s classic Prince Achmed, served ice cream and put out tons of great art materials for the kids to use. We had a terrific time with the kids creating beautiful shadow puppets and inventing improvised plays! Thanks to Art Dubai director Antonia Carver, her Highness Sheikha Manal and the fantastic Art Dubai team for the amazing support to make it all happen!

Stumbled across this beautiful little drawing tucked away at DARNA, The House of Woman here in Tangier. DARNA is a wonderful place that empowers women by teaching skills such as sewing, weaving, cooking, reading, writing and health (Zid Zid is working with the women now in sewing + design workshops too!). This drawing quietly captures their image and more…A great place to visit when in Tangier, they have a great boutique and restaurant too.
